Point Pleasant Beach: NJ Transit Train Electrical Fire

An electrical fire broke out on a NJ Transit train on Saturday afternoon, but no injuries were reported, according to officials.

Three minutes after an eastbound North Jersey Coast Line train left the Bay Head station, close to the track intersection with Washington Avenue, a fire was discovered in a vestibule stairs, according to NJ Transit spokesman Everett Merrill.

According to Merrill, the train was evacuated and none of the thirty passengers or crew members were injured. Firefighters on the scene put out the fire fast.

After a brief interruption, rail service has now resumed. According to Merrill, an investigation by the NJ Transit police is ongoing.
