Police Searching for Driver
Early on Sunday morning in Toms River Township, a hit-and-run accident resulted in the death of a 28-year-old woman.
The woman, whose identity has not been made public, was discovered laying in the road when police were summoned to the intersection of
Route 70 and New Hampshire Avenue at around 2:10 a.m. on Sunday, according to a statement from the
Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. A witness at the scene reported that the motorist got out, glanced at the pedestrian, and then took off driving east on Route 70 toward Lakewood.
The witness identified the car as a dark-colored 2003–2009 Ford Explorer, according to the statement. The front passenger side of the car exhibits "severe damage, including an inoperable passenger side headlight and hood damage."
The driver is characterized as a Caucasian male with blonde or reddish hair who is tall and trim.
The victim received quick assistance from first responders, EMTs, and paramedics, and a pulse was initially restored. She was taken to the Southern Campus of Monmouth Medical Center in Lakewood, New Jersey, where she was subsequently pronounced dead.
