Search Underway for Missing Woman Connected to Newark School Community

Police bodycam footage of Patrolman Nicholas Mezzacappa with the Freehold Township Police Department was dispatched to JCPenney, video footage confirmed that she attempted to steal. The suspect was identified as Lauren Beck. Store employees told him that this was not her first time stealing from JCPenney. Since they decided to press charges against her, Lauren was placed under arrest for shoplifting.

Police Ask for Public Tips to Help Locate Missing Newark Woman

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., requests the public’s help in locating Sandra Shanks, 60, of Newark, who has been reported missing.

Ms. Shanks was last seen at her place of employment, Marion P. Thomas School, at 2:10 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026. She is described as 5’8” tall and 160 pounds. She was last seen wearing a red coat, black flats, a curly wig, and glasses. Her mental and physical conditions are good.

Director Miranda urges anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Sandra Shanks to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS(1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
