Popcorn Park Zoo Mourns Loss of Cherished Bear
Longtime Popcorn Park Refuge resident Maryann the Bear passed away.In announcing the bear's passing, the shelter stated, "Maryann lived a very long and peaceful life at the Refuge and was deeply loved by staff, visitors, and supporters."
After being saved from an Ohio breeder, Maryann arrived at Popcorn Park. According to reports, the breeder had too many animals living in subpar conditions. Before Fish & Wildlife stepped in, Maryann and her sisters would frequently flee the ranch and wander Ohio's streets.
Maryann was well-known for her inquisitive and daring personality when she first arrived to Popcorn Park. She was always exploring her environment, playing with her sister Bonnie, climbing trees, and scaling objects. Maryann loved snacks like grapes, apples, and peanuts, and foraging was one of her favorite activities.
Maryann's keepers provided her with more comfort and attention as she grew older. This included yearly grooming, manicures, and unique enrichment delicacies like honeycomb and pumpkins. She really liked taking lengthy naps in the sun and listening to the soothing sounds of the waterfall in her natural habitat.
According to the Popcorn Park Animal Refuge, they are so grateful for all your support and love towards Maryann, it’s because of you that they could provide her with a life filled with peace, care, and compassion.
