

Messages of Sympathy and Support of John Tate’s passing from Ocean County. Lt. Tate dedicated 25 years of honorable service to the Seaside Heights Police Department before retiring in 2003. He later continued his service to the profession as Recruit Training Coordinator at the Ocean County Police Academy, where he prepared and mentored new officers, instilling in them the discipline, integrity, accountability, and commitment to service that defined his own career. He will be greatly missed.
It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of our beloved retired Lieutenant John Tate, whose dedication, courage, and unwavering commitment to service left a lasting impact on our department and community.
Throughout a distinguished career in law enforcement, Lieutenant Tate led with integrity, compassion, and strength. More than a supervisor, he was was a mentor, a protector, and a trusted friend to countless officers and residents alike. His leadership inspired those around him to serve with honor, and his presence brought reassurance during both challenging and everyday moments.
Lieutenant Tate devoted his life to keeping others safe, often placing the needs of the community above his own. His legacy will live on through the officers he guided, the lives he touched, and the example of selfless service he set for future generations.
As we grieve this tremendous loss, we also celebrate a life defined by bravery, loyalty, and dedication. Lieutenant Tate will never be forgotten and will forever remain a part of the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the honor of serving alongside him. Rest easy, Lieutenant — your watch has ended, but your legacy lives on. You will be greatly missed by us all.
