Remembering Michael Barry: A Life Cut Short by Surgical Complications

Remembering Ocean County Resident
Michael Barry

According to a GoFundme on January 2, Michael Barry, affectionately known as Mickey by friends and family, passed away. His family and children are struggling as a result of his passing.

One of those people who always volunteered was Michael Barry, who helped friends, looked after family, and made sure everyone was safe.

Among them were his four children, whom he became a father to when they most needed him, despite not being his biological children.

On a GoFundMe page created to support their cousins, Barry's nephews and niece wrote that their uncle "made the life-changing decision to adopt and raise our four cousins, children in desperate need of a safe and loving home." By doing this, he turned into their hero, their rock, and their beacon of light. He provided them with the much-needed affection and attention.
Joyce Sadelski, Barry's sister, stated that her brother, 55, passed away on January 2 due to complications following surgery. "The whole family was shocked," she said.

Joyce claimed that his children, who are ages 21, 17, 14, and 12, are left without the father who prioritized them at all times.

She said, "He was just the most loving person," recalling the past. "He made numerous sacrifices. He was unselfish.
According to Joyce, Mickey, who was born and raised in Old Bridge before relocating to Beachwood five years ago, adopted the kids in 2016 after taking them in with his mother, Phyllis, more than ten years prior. However, she claimed that Mickey did more than just look after the children.

According to Joyce, Mickey also looked after Phyllis when her health started to deteriorate due to dementia. Since Phyllis's passing in September 2023, he had been raising the children alone.

His four children are in our family's tender care because they no longer have a father. By doing this, these unselfish people have taken the initiative to carry on Uncle Mickey's legacy," they wrote. "As a family, we are dedicated to making sure his kids have the security, chances, and assistance that our uncle so diligently worked to provide."
