Over the past 20 years or so, anyone who has ever been to The Popcorn Park Animal Refuge in Lacey Township has probably encountered and enjoyed a cute, quirky black bear named BooBoo.
The park, which was created in 1977 with the sole aim of giving abandoned, hurt, and unwanted animals a place to call home, posted a notice on Facebook on Monday informing visitors that the 27-year-old black bear had passed away.
The zoo's workers and veterinarians worked incredibly hard to keep BooBoo content, healthy, and comfortable as she aged, according to the social media post. They groomed her, kept an eye on her bloodwork, and gave her regular medication.
However, BooBoo found her last few months to be very challenging. The crew had to make the difficult decision to say farewell at that point.
BooBoo first arrived at Popcorn Park in 1998, where she would spend the next 25 years finding refuge and her forever home.
BooBoo swam, ate peanuts, and dozed in the sun for the majority of her days.
According to
Popcorn Park Animal Refuge, "BooBoo will always have a special place in our hearts and that her memory will endure in the work we do."
