Saturday Night Blaze at the Jersey Shore Results in Multiple Injuries
Two firefighters and one resident were injured in a structure fire in Belmar on Saturday night, according to police.
At around 7:37 p.m. on Saturday, police officers received a report of a structure fire at a residence on the 500 block of 14th Avenue, according to a press release from the
Belmar Police Department released Sunday morning.
After being called to a shed fire in the back of
515 14th Avenue, firefighters arrived to "heavy flames." According to Belmar Fire Chief Pringle, a propane tank explosion, expected for use of a gas stove, went off in the original stages of the fire.
According to Chief Pringle, two additional nearby residential buildings—one at 517 14th Avenue and the other at 15th Avenue—also suffered fire damage.
Although "initial reports were that everybody was out of the house," according to Chief Pringle, "one of our firefighters made it to the second floor with some heavy fire conditions, located a subject looking for one of his animals in 513 (14th Avenue)" after dispatching two firefighters inside the buildings for primary searches.
Chief Pringle stated, "The firefighter pulled him out because he was a little confused. He did get some burns on his left hand, but they were treated."
According to Chief Pringle, two firefighters were hurt: one from the Belmar Fire Department and the other from the Spring Lake Heights Fire Department. Both firefighters received treatment for their injuries: the Belmar firefighter had debris in his eyes, and the Spring Lake Heights firefighter had a shoulder injury.
The fire is being investigated by the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office.
