Seaside Heights: No Shots Fired
Following several minutes of mayhem on the beachfront due to rumors of a shooting, authorities on Saturday night implemented a 10 p.m. curfew for adolescents under the age of 18 in Seaside Heights, NJ.
When news of a shooting leaked around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, teenagers hurried off the Seaside Heights boardwalk.
Instagram users have shared numerous videos of teenagers running off the boardwalk. At least one video shows law enforcement rushing onto the boardwalk and screaming at the teenagers to get off the boards. One of the officers is clearly brandishing a semiautomatic weapon.
"We responded to multiple reports, but they were unfounded," Steve Korman, a Seaside Heights detective, stated on Saturday evening.
Authorities implemented the curfew, requiring all teenagers under the age of 18 to leave the streets by 10 p.m. unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian, after they concluded there had not been a shooting.
The barrier island areas of Toms River and nearby Lavallette also have curfews ending at 10 p.m.
Not only is it Memorial Day weekend, but many young people in Seaside Heights are also celebrating prom.
Authorities reported that around 11 p.m., everything had subsided.
According to the Ocean County Sheriff's Office there was no shots fired on the boardwalk.
