Seven Children Injured in Firepit Incident at Jersey Shore Residence
According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, on Thursday seven children were burned on New Year's Eve due to a flash fire in an outdoor firepit at a Berkeley Township house.
The children were only described as juveniles by the authorities, who did not disclose their ages. According to the prosecutor's office, two were transported by Berkeley Township EMS to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where they received treatment before being discharged.
Authorities added that a third was treated and released after being brought by her parents to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
According to the prosecutor's office, four more people refused medical attention at the site.
The event took place at a house on North Trenton Avenue at ten o'clock at night. The cause of the flash fire has not been disclosed by the authorities. Police, fire, and emergency medical personnel from Berkeley arrived.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Arson Squad, Berkeley Township Police Department Detective Bureau, Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
