Significant Snowfall Expected in New Jersey

Winter Weather Alert: Possible Significant Snowfall Forecasted for NJ

Significant Snowfall Expected in New Jersey

According to the National Weather Service, the area will be affected by two impending systems that will bring snow accumulation. The first is Friday afternoon and evening, when there will be light snowfall during the evening rush hour. Roads may get slick and slushy.

Given that multiple rounds of Arctic air are on their way to the Eastern United States, forecasters anticipate that South Jersey will see more snowfall on Sunday. At least three significant Arctic air blasts are expected in the upcoming days and weeks, according to AccuWeather.

Friday and Saturday will see the first outbreak.

Next week, from January 7–8, the second blast is anticipated to occur in the middle of the week.

On January 11–12, a third round is anticipated.

As two winter storms hit New Jersey during the first cold blast that will send temperatures into the 20s, there will be a light dusting of snow Friday and up to 6 inches of snow Monday.

Snow Expected in NJ

According to an AccuWeather storm prediction map, South Jersey will receive 3–6 inches of snow, Central Jersey 1–3 inches, and far up north, none at all.

As of Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service said there was a 60 to 70 percent chance of more than 4 inches of snow falling in far South Jersey (south of Philadelphia).

The storm's timing, from Sunday evening into Monday morning, could cause travel disruptions during slick commutes, according to AccuWeather forecasters.

The snow should subside by late Monday, but there may be light snow and flurries into the evening.

The snow is expected to persist for some time due to the persistently cold temperatures. Late next week, according to AccuWeather, there's a chance of another winter storm that could bring ice and snow to the Atlantic coast. However, it's too early to provide any concrete information on that.
