Six-Mile Traffic Jam Caused by Parkway Crash in Ocean County

Two People Hurt in Parkway Crash Involving Dump Truck and Trailer

According to the Ocean County Sheriff's Office, traffic was backed up for six miles south of Exit 89 due to an accident that occurred on the northbound Garden State Parkway on Tuesday morning.

The Ocean County Sheriff's Office said the collision occurred around milemarker 87.5 northbound.

Traffic was backed up to the area of Exit 81 in Toms River, according to 511nj.org, the New Jersey Department of Transportation traffic website.

According to New Jersey State Police, a dump truck and a tractor-trailer carrying timber were among the five vehicles involved in an accident on the Garden State Parkway on Tuesday morning that left two people injured. According to Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron, the collision was reported at 7:53 a.m. near milepost 88.2 northbound of the Garden State Parkway in Lakewood.

The multi-vehicle incident involved a tractor-trailer transporting timber, a dump truck, and three passenger vehicles, he added.

Lebron stated that two motorists were sent to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He didn't say what kind of cars they were driving.

During the morning commute, there were traffic backups on the Parkway up to Toms River as a result of the incident, and as drivers tried to bypass the parkway, there were delays on side roads.

The crash remains under investigation.
