Smash-And-Grab Burglaries: Ocean County Man Faces Charges
Two burglaries in Monmouth County have led to the charges of a Brick Township man; according to the police, similar burglaries have occurred in other communities.
A man from Brick Township has been accused in connection with two smash-and-grab burglaries that occurred last week, out of what the police said were several similar incidents.
After looking into the break-ins, Brielle police arrested
Todd N. Lansing, 46, on March 28, they announced on Saturday.
On March 23, at 5:27 a.m., Brielle police were summoned to a shop on Route 70 regarding a smash-and-grab burglary. When a burglar alarm went off at a company on Higgins Avenue at 3:48 a.m. on March 24, they were contacted and discovered another smash-and-grab crime, according to the police.
An ad hoc task team was promptly established once Brielle investigators discovered that similar incidents had occurred in multiple locations, according to the police.
Police identified Lansing as the suspect after using automated license plate reader data from Brielle to identify a car they thought might be involved. They then shared this information with the other municipalities in the task force.
After what the police described as five days of intense investigation and monitoring, the task team stopped the car at 7:20 p.m. on March 28. Lansing was taken into custody, and the vehicle and its contents were impounded while search warrants were being carried out, according to Brielle police.
According to police, Lansing is accused with two counts of third-degree burglary, third-degree theft, fourth-degree criminal mischief, and possession of burglary tools, all of which are offenses against disorderly individuals.
According to the police, he is being held at the
Monmouth County jail.
