Forecasters predict freezing temperatures and a wintry combination of rain and snow for Super Bowl Sunday in the Garden State, so fans should layer up.
The National Weather Service said in a Thursday morning forecast discussion that "steady precipitation (mainly snow)" is expected for much of the state on Sunday, lasting from Sunday morning into the afternoon.
"A modest buildup is possible," the agency stated, "but not certain at this time."
Any remaining rain is expected to clear off by Sunday night.
"The antennae are still up for an East Coast storm on Sunday and Monday," said
AccuWeather Chief On-Air Meteorologist Bernie Rayno, adding that the direct impact of the snowfall is still unknown and experts are considering possible outcomes.
According to the National Weather Service's most recent models, most of central and southern Jersey will get about a half-inch of snow, while northern counties will get about a quarter-inch.
Rain and snow are also possible in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
