Soaking Rain and Strong Winds Expected in New Jersey

After a lovely Thursday with highs in the 40s and lows in the 50s, New Jersey is expected to have a rainy weekend with persistent, heavy rain.

The National Weather Service predicted early on Thursday that "morning clouds will give way to a sunny and warm Thursday before rain arrives Friday afternoon/evening - Saturday."

"With high confidence in temperatures above normal through Sunday as well, there is growing confidence in periods of rain moving through the area from Friday p.m. to Sunday a.m."
Before the rain starts on Friday afternoon due to the approach of a cold front, Friday highs will be in the mid 40s to low 60s.

A warm front is expected to move through the state by Saturday, prolonging the rain and bringing warm air to the region.

On Saturday, high temperatures are predicted to be between the upper 40s and the low 60s.

Later on Saturday, more intense rain is expected. There may be occasional thunderclaps, but widespread severe weather is not anticipated.

In certain places, the total amount of rainfall might be as much as two inches.

The National Weather Service stated that there is little risk of flooding because the rain will fall over two days.
Before a secondary cold front passes across the area on Sunday morning, there will be rain showers.

Winds will pick up once this front passes, with gusts perhaps reaching 25 to 35 mph.

Before cooler air starts to flow in on Sunday night, temperatures will be above average through Sunday morning.
As temperatures fall below freezing once more, AccuWeather's forecasters are monitoring the possibility of a late-week winter storm. Check the latest forecast.
