South Jersey Motel Fire: Man Flees After Intentionally Igniting Mattress
According to Authorities, a man purposefully set a mattress in a motel on fire before running away, forcing other occupants to relocate.
Franklin Township police, who patrol the borough, say the incident happened on Nov. 25 at the Budget Motel in the Landisville area of Buena.
One room was first reported to be on fire, and witnesses suggested that it might have been started on purpose, according to authorities.
Shawn Negron, 31, set fire to the mattress in his motel room before running away, according to the results of the investigation, authorities said.
Police said Negron, who was residing at the motel, was apprehended without incident after being discovered at a neighboring business.
Police said numerous motel rooms were destroyed and several residents were relocated, but no injuries were reported.
Negron was accused of criminal mischief, arson, and causing or threatening extensive harm or destruction. He was taken to the Atlantic County Correctional Facility.
