South Jersey Wildfire Expands to Over 11,500 Acres
According to New Jersey Forest Fire Service, the wildfire that began near Barnegat on Tuesday, forced 3,000 people to evacuate, stopped highways, and spread to 11,500 acres. It is currently 30% contained.
Late Tuesday, officials reported that the Jones Road Wildfire had spread northward into Waretown and Lacey. However, as of Wednesday morning, evacuation orders have been withdrawn and the Garden State Parkway and Route 9 are reopened in both directions. Driver visibility is restricted.
The fire prompted
Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way to proclaim a State of Emergency in Ocean County early on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, JCP&L cut power lines into and out of its Oyster Creek substation, causing an estimated 23,000 customers to lose power. This will help ensure the safety of the firefighters fighting the fire. Assemblyman Greg Myrhe stated that as of Wednesday morning, there is no restoration period as of yet. You can continuously check for
restoration times here. No injuries or deaths have been reported as a result of the fire.
