Forecasters are now stating that the possibility of strong thunderstorms could offer some respite from the sweltering heat.
According to the the
National Weather Service, expected heat indexes range from 93 to 98, although no record-breaking temperatures are forecasted.
The remainder of the week will bring hot, muggy weather. Forecasters predict that North Jersey may see slow-moving thunderstorms when a cold front rolls in on Friday. The National Weather Service predicts that these may produce intense rain, isolated flooding, and possibly damaging wind gusts during severe thunderstorms.
Even after the storms subside, it will remain hot and muggy. Saturday's highs in North Jersey will remain in the low to mid-90s due to the cold front. However, inland areas may experience a heat index of 105 throughout the weekend.
Once more, rain and thunderstorms are expected for Saturday afternoon and evening, with the possibility of them reaching Central Jersey.
