Student from Ocean County Removed from School Amid Shooting Threats

According to Stafford Township Police Department, after learning of the girl's comments that raised worries about safety at Southern Regional High School, the Stafford Township Police agency obtained a Temporary Extreme Risk Protective Order against her, the agency announced on its Facebook page early on Wednesday.

According to their post, the Stafford Township Police Department and Southern Regional School District are aware of a legal document, posted on social media, concerning a juvenile student and potential safety concerns related to the school. The purpose of their press release is to inform the public that the matter has been thoroughly investigated, and there is no current threat to the Southern Regional School District.

On September 16, 2024, the Southern Regional School District received a report from an individual expressing concern about a juvenile student and potential safety risks. The Southern Regional High School administration took immediate action, conducting an investigation that led to further evaluation of the student. This evaluation indicated concerns about the student’s behavior and potential risks to the school.

In response, the Stafford Township Police Department transported the juvenile to a local facility for additional screening. The department also filed for and was granted a Temporary Extreme Risk Protective Order (TERPO) by the Honorable Judge Mark Schneider.

A search of the juvenile’s residence found no firearms registered to the home, and no weapons were discovered. The student has been removed from the Southern Regional School District, and steps are being taken to ensure ongoing safety and monitoring.

While there is no immediate threat to the school or surrounding community, the Stafford Township Police Department will implement enhanced security measures in and around the schools over the coming days.

These precautionary steps are being taken to provide reassurance and peace of mind to parents, students, educators, and staff. The department is committed to ensuring a safe and secure learning environment, and any updates regarding the situation will be communicated via their official social media platforms.
