Suspect Apprehended After Eluding Police in Ocean County

According to Brick Township Police Department, on June 03, 2024, at approximately 3 am, patrol officers encountered a subject, later identified as Christopher Therien, sleeping in the Forge Pond Park located off Rt 70.

While the officers were speaking with Christopher, advising him of the park rules and hours of operation, he suddenly ran towards the water and jumped in.

Christopher then swam across Forge Pond, ultimately taking a resident's kayak from their backyard, and paddled west into a wooded area located behind the Ocean County Golf Course.

Further investigation revealed that Therien had been previously entered into the National Database as a missing and endangered person.

Search and rescue teams using local, county, and state resources kept searching for Therien by air, sea, and land throughout the morning and early afternoon. At no time was the public at risk or compromised in any way.

Brick police informed readers on social media that he had been found by 3 p.m.
