Swimming Not Permitted at this Ocean County Beach During 2025
After consistently high levels of bacteria were found along the borough's shoreline throughout 2024, the beach will not be open for swimming this summer. According to a report, Beachwood's beach on the Toms River has banned swimming for 2025 because of ongoing concern about high bacterial numbers.
Furthermore, according to the
Asbury Park Press, the swimming prohibition might never be lifted.
Due to elevated fecal bacterial levels, the borough's beach was closed for swimming for four consecutive weeks in July 2024.
Over the years, the beach has experienced numerous swimming bans due to water quality concerns, and in 2020, it was named the dirtiest in New Jersey.
The beach "may not ever reopen (to swimming)," according to Sue Minock, the borough's business administrator.
Swimming in polluted water can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, runny nose, earaches skin rashes and flu-like symptoms.
The beach also was closed to swimming in 2023, but that was due to the inability to find lifeguards, the borough said at the time. Get the latest updates and news from the
