Theft Case: Ocean County Woman Accused of Stealing from Motorcycle Dealership

Theft Case: Ocean County Woman Accused of Stealing from Motorcycle Dealership

According to the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office, a woman from Toms River is charged with stealing $27,000 from the motorcycle dealership where she formerly served as general manager.

According to prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, Chelsea A. Marra-Kaufmann, 36, has been charged with third-degree theft by taking or exercising unlawful control over property.
According to the prosecutor's office, investigators discovered that Marra-Kaufmann had mistakenly collected three more paychecks in late 2022 without permission from the dealership's administrative leadership. The checks totaled over six thousand dollars. Prosecutors said that Marra-Kaufmann never reported it.

As investigators dug more, they discovered that Marra-Kaufmann submitted a check for $3,300 to purchase a motorcycle, but it was returned for insufficient money. Prosecutors said she concealed the loss by claiming she had paid many bank fees.
Prosecutors claimed that she made a number of transactions in the accounting system to conceal the loss in a different 2023 sale in which she was scheduled to pay a $18,000 deposit but failed to do so.

According to the prosecution, the total amount of the theft was just over $27,000.

According to the prosecutor's office, Marra-Kaufmann was served with a summons for the accusations against her, and her initial hearing is tentatively set for Tuesday in Monmouth County Superior Court.
