Thunderstorms Cause Widespread Power Outages in New Jersey
On Monday night, violent thunderstorms swept throughout New Jersey, producing extensive power outages that have affected almost 6,600 residents.
Due to persistent thunderstorms that provide a localized, severe risk of destructive wind gusts and flash flooding, the
National Weather Service issued a severe weather warning for New Jersey.
The primary line of thunderstorms, which were characterized as "extremely slow-moving," extended across the I-195 corridor and were causing serious flooding concerns.
Throughout the afternoon and early evening, the thunderstorms continued to move slowly and had the potential to backbuild.
According to meteorologists, the storms could cause localized flash flooding and destructive wind gusts, with some regions seeing several rounds of precipitation.
A second, less intense round of showers and thunderstorms was expected overnight, potentially continuing into early Wednesday morning.
The
National Weather Service emphasized the unpredictability of the storm system, warning residents to remain alert and prepared. Residents were advised to stay informed about local weather conditions and potential power restoration efforts.
