More than 10,000 utility customers in the Garden State are without power as a result of thunderstorms on Sunday night.

The whole state was previously under a severe thunderstorm watch from the National Weather Service until 10 p.m., and there have occasionally been thunderstorm and flood warnings in place for certain locations, with gusts of up to 70 mph predicted.

The storm-whipped waves from Hurricane Ernesto, which is still in the Atlantic after slamming Bermuda, left numerous beaches with red flags, indicating that swimming is not permitted.
