Toms River: 14-Year-Old Sexually Assaulted by Sex Offender
According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, authorities claimed that a 14-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted on Sunday by a convicted sex offender from Toms River who had offered her a ride when she got lost.
Keith M. Hahn, 46, was detained Tuesday at his home, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.
The teen told investigators that she noticed she was lost on Sunday while strolling along Route 70 in Manchester Township. A man driving a white Jeep Grand Cherokee stopped and talked with her, and she begged him to give her a lift to the animal shelter in Toms River, investigators said.
Instead, the girl informed officials that the man, who was eventually identified as Hahn, drove her to another part of Toms River and abused her sexually. He then took the girl to the Toms River Walmart on Route 37, where she exited, fled home, and called the Manchester police, according to the authorities.
Hahn was arrested at his house when police carried out court-authorized search warrants on his residence and car after investigators were able to establish that he was the perpetrator of the girl's attack, according to the prosecutor's office.
Hahn is being held at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River for a detention hearing. He has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact, kidnapping, enticing, and endangering the welfare of a minor.
The New Jersey State Police sex offender registry lists Hahn as a Tier II offender. He was found guilty in 1995 of "sexual assault with penetration," and according to the register, he attacked and secluded his victims.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, High Tech Crime Unit and Megan’s Law Squad, the Toms River Police Department and its Detective Bureau, the Manchester Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit combined in the investigation.
