Toms River Man Arrested for Dropping Firearm Inside Church

According to the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, after claiming to be a law enforcement officer and dropping a gun in a Point Pleasant Beach church on Sunday, Randolph Tashman, 60 of Toms River was taken into custody.

Mr. Tashman was being held at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River while he awaited a detention hearing.

At approximately 9:53 a.m. on 11/17/24, officers were dispatched to a local church for a report of a male subject who dropped a gun out of their pocket. Church security escorted the male subject, identified as Randolph Tashman of Toms River, outside the church. Upon arrival of officers, it was determined that Tashman was not the registered owner of the firearm and did not possess a Firearm’s Identification card.

Tashman had also identified himself as a Law Enforcement officer to church security prior to our officers’ arrival. It was determined that Tashman is not a Law Enforcement Officer.

Tashman was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer. Tashman was transported and is currently lodged at Ocean County Jail, pending a detention hearing. It is presumed that any individual charged is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
