Paul Mount, 45, of Toms River
According to the Manchester Township Police, on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at about 10:30 p.m.,
Manchester Township Police officers were called to the scene of a pedestrian that was struck by two automobiles on County Route 571 near the intersection with Washington Avenue.
Officers responded to the site and discovered a 45-year-old pedestrian named Paul Mount from Toms River, New Jersey, laying in the road in the left lane of County Route 571 going north, about 56 feet north of Washington Avenue.
Officers started CPR right away, but Mr. Mount died on the spot from his injuries despite their best efforts. The two involved cars, a black 2018 Ford Explorer and a black 2021 Toyota Highlander, were discovered not far from the collision site with little damage.
The inquiry showed that Mr. Mount was not in a designated crosswalk as he was crossing
County Route 571 near the intersection of Washington Avenue. The Toyota was following closely behind the Ford as it approached the intersection of Washington Avenue while heading northbound on County Route 571 in the left lane. Both the Ford and the Toyota struck Mr. Mount as he moved into the left lane of County Route 571 in the direction of the north.
The Ford's driver, 21-year-old Cristian Solano of Jackson, New Jersey, had two passengers along for the ride: 51-year-old Angel Contreras-Guriervez and 31-year-old Yonatan Maroles-Guardado. Fraidel Malka Kramer, 27, the driver of the Toyota, was alone. There were no injuries reported for any Ford or Toyota passengers. Members of the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, EMTs from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, and paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital all provided assistance at the scene.
A representative from the Ocean County Medical Examiner's Office and detectives from the Ocean County Sheriff's Department Crime Scene Investigations Unit also arrived at the scene to aid in the investigation.
Although the investigation into the collision is still underway, it appears that the main contributing cause was crossing the road at night at a place where there was no crosswalk. Ptl. Michael O'Hara of the department's Traffic Safety Unit is looking into this collision.
