Toms River Police Chief: Who Will Take the Helm?
According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, on Friday, August 23rd, Toms River Police Chief Mitchell Little formally announced his retirement by leaving the Richard C. Clement Law Enforcement Center for the final time.
Little, who was appointed chief on January 1, 2014, was recognized on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at the police department with a
walk-out ceremony.
For the first time in many years, the department is without a chief following his retirement. Little took over for Michael Mastronardy, the current Ocean County Sheriff, who retired on December 31, 2013, after 22 years as the chief of police in Toms River.
Little's deputy chief, Patrick Dellane, retired on July 31.
When Little was suspended by Mayor Daniel Rodrick in April, Lt. Peter Sundack filled in as acting chief while Dellane was away on medical leave.
After Little's official retirement, according to Mayor Rodrick of Toms River, the hiring process will start, and all seven of the department's lieutenants will be invited to apply for the role.
Sundack is in charge of the professional standards unit, Lt. Guy Maire is in charge of the day shift patrol unit, Lt. Vincent Pedalino is in charge of the evening shift unit, Lt. Scott Moeller is in charge of the midnight shift patrol unit, Lt. Ron Sermarini is in charge of the special operations division, which includes the detectives, Lt. Anthony Scali is in charge of the traffic safety unit, and Lt. Gene Bachonski is in charge of the community affairs division.
