Tragic Accident Claims Life of Woman on Route 166 in Toms River
According to Toms River Police Departmenton Monday, a woman was struck by a car on Sunday while crossing Route 166 and died as a result.
Cynthia Ryder, 67, of Toms River passed away from her wounds at Community Medical Center in Toms River.
At approximately 5:40 p.m., Ryder was crossing from east to west close to 1055 Route 166, close to Winteringham Village, when she was struck by a 2015 Hyundai Genesis being driven north by Whiting resident Arnita M. Morris, 66.
The location where Ryder was crossing does not have any pedestrian crosswalks in the immediate area.
According to police, no summonses have been sent out as a result of the crash investigation.
Route 166 was closed for a number of hours during the course of the investigation.
With assistance from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department CSI Unit, Toms River Officer Eric Nelson of the Traffic Safety Unit was conducting the investigation.
