Tragic Discovery: Three Bodies Located in New Jersey House
According to state prosecutors, three deaths were found inside a New Jersey home on January 5 after police shot and killed a man who was "threatening to harm family members" with a kitchen knife.
According to the office of
New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin, the event happened on January 5 at approximately 5:30 p.m. ET in Piscataway, New Jersey, which is roughly 34 miles northeast of Trenton. Middlesex County contains the township of Piscataway.
Platkin's office has identified the deceased suspect as
29-year-old Jordan Barnes. According to the authorities, a family member called 911 to report that Barnes was threatening to hurt family members inside the house while brandishing a knife.
Later, according to Platkin's office, officers showed up to the house and tried to talk to Barnes via the locked front door. According to the AG's office, a police officer then noticed two people laying motionless on the ground as he peered through the door's sidelight.
Officers then opened the front door and encountered Mr. Barnes holding a kitchen knife. Officers commanded Mr. Barnes to put the knife down and get on the ground. Mr. Barnes did not drop the knife or get on the ground. Three officers deployed their tasers. Mr. Barnes continued to walk toward the officers and Officer Ward fired his service weapon, striking Mr. Barnes. Officers provided immediate medical aid until emergency medical services arrived on scene. Authorities recovered two knives near Mr. Barnes. Mr. Barnes was later pronounced deceased.
After the shooting, police found Jeanmarie Barnes, 60, Richard A. Barnes, 86, and Brenda F. Barnes, 84, deceased inside the residence with multiple suspected stab wounds. The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating their deaths.
