Tragic Incident at Jersey Shore: Teen Drowns at Local Beach

The Belmar Police Department received many 911 calls of a swimmer in distress off the 8th Avenue beach on Friday at around 6:36 PM.

One individual was reported out of the water upon the arrival of the police, while another young swimmer was reported missing.

After arriving on the scene, Belmar Water Rescue went into the water to try to find the 13-year-old youngster who had gone missing. The victim was discovered unconscious in the ocean off the 7th Avenue beach at around 7:29 p.m. Wall Township EMS, Hackensack Meridian Paramedics, Belmar lifeguards, and Belmar EMS all worked to save the victim's life after removing her from the water.
The adolescent was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune after Belmar lifeguards, Belmar EMS, Wall Township EMS, and Hackensack Meridian paramedics performed life-saving procedures.

According to Belmar police, "the subject was pronounced deceased after extensive efforts."

The incident is still being investigated.

According to the borough's website, lifeguards are on duty in Belmar until 6 p.m. on Fridays.

Due to the risks involved when lifeguards are not on duty, Belmar's chief lifeguard pleaded with people to avoid the water after hours.

Harry M. Harsin, the chief lifeguard of the Belmar Beach stated, "I cannot stress enough that the ocean presents numerous risks to anybody who enter the water when lifeguards are not on duty." "There is always a risk from wind, waves, sandbars, and riptides."

His sympathies were given to the girl's family. "Please, I am PLEADING with the people to apply common sense and not let your loved ones into the water after hours," he stated.
