In an early Sunday collision on the Garden State Parkway, a man from Toms River was killed and his passenger from Long Branch was injured after being thrown from a car, according to New Jersey State Police.

According to Trooper Christopher Postorino, Brian Fort, 20, of Toms River, passed away in the collision that was reported just after six in the morning.

According to Postorino, Errol Jeffrey, 22, of Long Branch, had severe injuries. For treatment, he was brought to an unidentified hospital.

Fort was traveling north on the Parkway in an Infiniti when the vehicle veered off the right shoulder close to milepost 73.2 in Lacey. According to police, it overturned after hitting several trees and falling down an embankment before coming to a stop.
