Tragic Plane Crash in New Jersey Results in Pilot's Death
A fiery plane crash near New York on Saturday claimed the life of a man from New Jersey.
According to
New York State Police, the pilot and only person on board the single-engine aircraft, Gerald Cotter, 80, of Milford in Hunterdon County, was killed.
Troops from Highland responded to a reported jet crash at the Kobelt/Walkill Airport on Saturday in the Hudson Valley town of Shawangunk.
A small single-engine plane crashed during takeoff and caught fire, according to the preliminary state police inquiry.
State police reported that the pilot was discovered deceased at the location.
"On Saturday, September 27, at approximately 5:05 p.m. local time, a Glasair II crashed in a field close to Kobelt Airport in New York," the FAA informed Patch in a preliminary statement. "The pilot was the only person on board."
The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are looking into the matter.
