Tragic Shooting at Jersey Shore Beach: Teen Victim Identified
Homicide investigators have identified the victim of last week's deadly shooting in Monmouth County as an 18-year-old man from Middlesex County.
A representative from the
Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office announced on Sunday that
Chrystofer Whyte of North Brunswick has been identified as the victim of the June 12 shooting at Pier Village in Long Branch.
According to a
statement released by Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago on Friday afternoon, police in Long Branch responded to a report of gunfire at 8:58 p.m. to the beach area between the shoreline and the Pier Village boardwalk.
Officers found an adult male victim who had been shot once when they arrived, he added.
At the scene, the victim was declared deceased.
Members of the Long Branch Police Department and the Major Crimes Bureau of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office are actively involved in an ongoing investigation.
If anyone has personal video footage of the incident on their phones or other electronic devices and may have been at the site, investigators are urging them to come forward.
