Two Ocean County Men Charged in Toms River Homicide from 2010

According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, Maurice Cole, 36, and Jerron Evans, 41, of Lakewood, were charged with murder on December 3, 2024, in connection with the death of Rondell Proctor on May 27, 2010, in Toms River, New Jersey.

Officers from the Toms River Township Police Department were called to the Winteringham Village Apartments, which are situated at Route 166 in Toms River, on May 27, 2010, at around 12:45 a.m., in response to a shooting incident.

Rondell Proctor, 22, of Arkansas, was found by responding officers with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and one wound to his face. After being taken to Community Medical Center, Mr. Proctor was declared deceased.

The Toms River Township Police Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit conducted a follow-up investigation, although it was unsuccessful for a number of years. These charges were filed against Cole and Evans as a result of ongoing investigation and testing of evidence that was not available at the time of the initial inquiry.

Detectives from the Ocean County Regional SWAT Team, Toms River Township Police Department, Lakewood Township Police Department, and Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit apprehended Cole and Evans without any problems on December 3, 2024. After being taken to the Ocean County Jail, they are currently being held there while a detention hearing is held.
