Two Sisters Open Candle Company in Toms River

New Candle Store Opens Its Doors in Toms River by Local Sisters
Sisters Jillian Conklin and Amanda Funicelli acknowledge their candle obsession.

Amanda, 28, recently remarked, "Any time we would go to the store and come home we would have a new candle," as the sisters discussed Conklin Candle Company, their foray into the wax and fragrance industries.
"One day at home, we had an unintentional experiment," Jillian, 24, stated. After lighting a trustworthy brand of candle, "the air purifier in the room shot up to red," indicating that there were 150 particulates per milliliter of air.

According to the sisters, they discovered that the way scented candles are made results in many well-known brands having similar qualities.

Particularly for Amanda, who has a toddler and is expecting her second child in May, it was an unpleasant surprise.

"Using harmful chemicals to make candles is not healthy," she stated. "Toxin avoidance is more popular today."
Thus, the sisters founded the Conklin Candle Company, a Toms River-based company, with the goal of creating a candle that produced the fragrances they enjoyed without the use of chemicals.

The company creates candles using only soy wax, premium fragrance oils, and pure cotton wicks to create a cozy atmosphere in people's homes.

According to the sisters, the candles and wicks are free of lead and phthalates. According to them, soy wax does that on its own, but phthalates are frequently used to help candle wax burn more evenly. According to the sisters, it also extends the candles' burning time.
The store is open Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. and Mondays through Fridays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. They are closed on Saturdays. Their storefront is located at 21 Route 37 in Toms River.
