Unexpected Delivery: Woman Gives Birth on Garden State Parkway
Thanks to the efforts of Upper Township emergency responders, a bouncing baby girl was born Thursday night in a way that will undoubtedly be a unique family story for years to come: her mother gave birth in her car, which was parked on the Garden State Parkway.
Seaville Volunteer Fire Company and Upper Township EMS Squad 21 were sent to the northbound side of the Parkway at 9:03 p.m. after receiving a report of a woman in labor, according to a Facebook post from Seaville Fire Rescue.
Deputy Chief Brian Allegretto, state police, the ambulance from Upper Township, and the firetruck from Seaville arrived on the site at 9:09 p.m.
EMTs Jessica Wriggins and William Handley, along with Allegretto, a paramedic, evaluated the expectant mother and determined that delivery was near. So they had her car ready for delivery.
And without any problems, the baby girl was born at 9:18 p.m.
Following delivery and medical attention, the mother and child were placed into an ambulance and driven to the Mainland Campus of AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.
