2 Rescued From Jersey Shore Waters
According to Wildwood Fire Department, units from the North Wildwood and Wildwood City fire departments were called to a water rescue in the West Wildwood neighborhood of Poplar and Bay Avenue on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at around 7:05 p.m. A capsized boat was the subject of the first report.
Upon arrival of Wildwood Squad Co. 3, West Wildwood PD officers on scene reported at least two victims in the water. Units had no visual of the victims in the darkness but could hear someone yelling for help out in the water. WFD and NWFD deployed 3 rescue swimmers on paddleboards to locate the victims. The rescue swimmers located one male victim approximately 300 yards from shore.
It was discovered that two male subjects were on a personal watercraft (Waverunner) that had capsized. Fortunately, both victims were wearing personal floatation devices (PFD’s).
The first victim was secured on a paddleboard and transferred to NWFD Boat 2-1 who transported him back to shore. The second victim was located by a Good Samaritan vessel as the rescue swimmers were searching.
The second male victim and rescue swimmers were brought back to shore by the Good Samaritan vessel.
The victims were both treated on scene for mild hypothermia. Both patients refused transport to the hospital. Additional responding units included Wildwood PD, North Wildwood PD, Wildwood Crest PD (Drone Unit), Wildwood Crest EMS, AtlantiCare Paramedics, New Jersey State Police Marine Bureau, and the United States Coast Guard. Sea Tow Wildwood secured the capsized PWC. All FD units cleared the scene after approximately one hour.
