Weather Alert: Coating of Snow Expected Across New Jersey Tonight
The northern part of New Jersey is expected to receive up to a half-inch of snow overnight and early on Sunday.
The
National Weather Service predicts that light snow or flurries will begin after midnight, with lows in the teens and 20s.
Counties in the Northwest are most likely to experience up to half an inch of snow. The southern part of the state is probably going to stay dry.
It is anticipated that any snowfall will stop by Sunday morning.
As high pressure builds on Sunday, the weather will clear, bringing with it brisk conditions and sunny sky.
The afternoon will see an increase in wind, with gusts as high as 15 to 20 mph.
While parts of the northwest will continue in the upper 20s to low 30s, high temperatures will remain below average throughout much of the state, hitting the mid to upper 30s.
Northern counties may experience a second round of wintry precipitation due to another storm that is expected to reach on Monday afternoon and evening.
There could be another dusting to a half-inch of snow, mostly north of the I-78 corridor. On Monday night, there may be light, freezing rain or drizzle until it tapered off.
As a warm front lifts north of the area on Tuesday, the current cold stretch will start to significantly change.
Northwest New Jersey may have freezing rain on Tuesday night due to this shift, while the remainder of the state will see plain rain as temperatures rise.
There will be very little possibility of rain by Wednesday when a cold front passes over the region.
Wednesday's high temperatures are predicted to be in the low to mid-40s in northern regions and the low to mid-50s in southern New Jersey.
On Thursday, there will be a brief return of high pressure, which will keep the weather dry and marginally cooler while maintaining above-average temperatures.
On Friday, a warm front with more clouds and a possibility of rain is predicted to move in from the southwest.
Although forecasters are unsure of how far north the warm front will move, Friday may turn out to be fairly mild, with highs perhaps approaching 60 degrees close to the Jersey Shore. Check the latest
