Weather Alert: Severe Thunderstorm Watch in NJ

Weather Alert: Severe Thunderstorm Watch in NJ

For the time being, this is going to be the final really hot day in New Jersey. Tomorrow, we go back to the 80s. In the evening, strong thunderstorms are predicted. There's a chance that these storms will continue until the early morning hours.

According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm watch is still in force for 17 of the 21 counties in the state until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, . The watch is active until 10 p.m., for New Jersey's far south.

In addition to the severe weather, dangerous heat index values—a measure of how hot it feels when temperature and humidity are combined—are reaching as high as 100 to 110 degrees, prompting extreme heat advisories that are in effect for the majority of the state until 8 p.m.

The next round of weather is expected to relieve the heat wave that has been plaguing the area for several days, according to forecasters.

Seventeen counties were under a severe storm watch as of 1:00 p.m. These counties are the following: Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Passaic, Ocean Somerset, Union, Sussex, and Warren; Burlington, Essex, Camden, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Hudson, Mercer, and Middlesex. The time on the watch is 8 p.m.

FUTURE FORECAST:

Overnight temperatures will be below 70s. Now, through portions of the overnight, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible. Wind damage and flash floods are the biggest concerns. However, some storms have produced hail thus far, and a tornado is still a possibility.

On Thursday, the highs will be in the upper 80s and the lows in the upper 60s! Much improved! sun accompanied by some clouds.
