Weather Alert: Snow Showers and High Winds Forecasted for NJ
Strong westerly winds may reach up to 40 mph during the day, with the possibility of snow showers or flurries, as a much colder air mass has moved over New Jersey.
"We're seeing the season's first snowflakes this morning!" the New York office of the
National Weather Service posted an image of flurries from Bergen County early on Tuesday.
Tuesday morning temperatures will be in the mid-20s to about 30 degrees, with wind chills falling into the teens.
It will feel raw all day long due to the mix of strong gusts and frigid temperatures; even with sunshine, afternoon highs will only reach the low to mid-40s.
It will feel like the 30s in the afternoon due to wind chill factors.
The greatest winds, which might reach 40 to 45 mph around the Jersey Shore, are predicted to be sustained at 20 to 25 mph with gusts close to 35 to 40 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
According to the weather service, Tuesday might bring snow showers or flurries, especially in regions close to and north of Interstate 78, which stretches as far south as central New Jersey and the northern suburbs.
On grassy surfaces in northwest New Jersey, a light dusting of less than half an inch cannot be ruled out, even though accumulations are not anticipated.
With extensive stratocumulus cloud building and partly to mostly cloudy skies in most places, the snow shower activity is predicted to stay mild and brief.
Tuesday night, winds will progressively decrease, but they will still be between 10 and 15 mph overnight.
With lows in the upper 20s to mid-30s, temperatures will be marginally milder than Monday night, resulting in wind chill readings in the 20s by Wednesday morning.
The sky will continue to be partially to mostly overcast. Wednesday will continue to be windy, with afternoon gusts of 25 to 30 mph.
The upper 40s to low 50s will continue to be a seasonably cold high. Although a few wind gusts of up to 25 mph are still possible, Thursday's conditions will be a little calmer as high pressure moves in.
With highs in the upper 40s to low 50s and lows Thursday night that drop into the low 30s, the weather will be much like Wednesday.
Mid-November temperatures will be close to or slightly below average, with highs in the upper 40s to mid-50s and lows in the 30s.
Through Friday, there will be a strong westerly flow. Late Saturday night into Sunday is when there is the next likelihood of precipitation.
With the frontal system moving across the area on Monday, the likelihood of rain increases to 30 to 40% on Sunday night.
Light precipitation is predicted, and Sunday's temperatures will rise by a few degrees over average before cooler air comes early the next week. Check the latest
