Winter Weather Advisories Issued
for NJ Due to Freezing Rain
According to the most recent forecast, three counties in North Jersey have been placed under a Winter Weather Advisory as a storm moves into the area and brings freezing rain.
The
National Weather Service warned that the morning commute may be affected due to the possibility of ice-slick roads during the advisory, which will be in effect in Sussex, Warren, and Morris counties from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday.
According to
AccuWeather Meteorologist Nick Arman, "this storm will bring a large area of precipitation to the Northeast Thursday night through Friday, falling mainly as rain in most places."
However, "areas in Pennsylvania and New York with subfreezing temperatures will see potential ice accumulations from freezing rain, mainly during the predawn hours, as precipitation moves in during the early morning hours of Friday."
A Hazardous Weather Outlook has also been issued for the counties of Passaic, Bergen, Essex, and western Union, which may also experience some icy patches on Friday morning.
Temperatures will be above freezing statewide by late Friday morning, but rainstorms will persist across New Jersey, making it "a dreary day overall," according to the National Weather Service.
It should stop raining by Friday evening. According to the National Weather Service, "temperatures will start falling below freezing, but right now it looks like precip should end before any transition back to wintry weather." Again, there may be patches of ice, mostly in the state's northwest.
The
National Weather Service predicts that Saturday will be sunny and that Sunday may see some rain, but not much.
