Woman, 43, Dies in Collision with Dump Truck in Ocean County

According to Jackson Township Police Department, on December 12th officers received a report of a serious motor vehicle crash on Toms River Road (Rt.571) in the area of Osprey Place. Upon their arrival, officers observed that a small white van had struck a dump truck head on and that the driver of the smaller vehicle was entrapped and unresponsive. Officers further observed that the vehicles were now on fire and began to immediately attempt to remove the driver from the white van.

Unfortunately, the flames began to overtake the vehicles and attempts to remove the driver were ceased as the Cassville Fire department arrived on scene and began to suppress the fire. After the fire was successfully extinguished, it was discovered that the driver of the white van had succumbed to her injuries. The decedent was identified as Evelin Villanueva-Detejeda (43 years of age) of Perth Amboy, NJ. The driver of the dump truck was uninjured in the collision.
Following the arrival of firefighters, the motorist was pronounced deceased, according to the police. The dump truck's driver was unharmed in the collision.

Preliminary police investigation based on witness statements and roadway evidence revealed that the white van had been traveling south bound on Toms River Road when it suddenly crossed the double yellow line and entered the north bound lane of travel into the dump truck’s path. The driver of the dump truck attempted to brake but was unable to avoid the collision with the white van in the north bound lane of Toms River Road. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
