Toms River Shooting: 20 Year-Old Man Pleads Guilty

On January 21, 2025, Anthony Brown, 20, of Toms River, entered a guilty plea to Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in connection with an incident that took place in Toms River on June 12, 2024, according to a statement made by Ocean County Prosecutor's Office .

The State will recommend four years in New Jersey State Prison (NJSP) for the Aggravated Assault charge and five years in NJSP, with a 42-month parole ineligibility period, for the Weapon offense when he is sentenced on March 21, 2025. Concurrent operation of the sentences is required.
Officers from the Toms River Township Police Department were called to a residence on Adams Avenue at around 11:30 p.m. on June 12, 2024, after receiving a report of gunfire.

Responding officers found a male victim, age 24, who had been shot in the leg.

After receiving medical attention for his injuries at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, the victim was released.
Brown took a handgun from the subject residence and fired two shots at the victim's car, hitting the victim, according to the results of an investigation conducted by the Toms River Township Police Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit.

Then Brown ran away. Shortly afterward, Brown was apprehended without any problems near Adams Avenue. After being taken to the Ocean County Jail, Brown has been held there ever since his arrest.
