A transmission problem left more than 12,000 homes and businesses in the Toms River area without power Wednesday morning, according to Jersey Central Power & Light.
According to the JCP&L outage map, the outage was affecting houses in the eastern part of Toms River, as well as Seaside Heights and Seaside Park.
A malfunction in one of the high-voltage sub-transmission lines triggered the outage, according to Chris Hoenig, a JCP&L spokesman.
Crews were attempting to reroute energy transmission around the defective region in order to re-connect customers as soon as feasible.
According to Hoenig, they are still attempting to figure out what caused the incident.
