Jahvontae Debose, 25, of Lakewood, was indicted by an Ocean County Grand Jury on the charge of Murder in connection with the shooting death of Dajour Randolph in Lakewood Township on February 21, 2021, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.
Debose was charged with murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, being a certain person not to possess a firearm, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of hollow nose ammunition, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) with intent to distribute, also according to Billhimer.
Per Billhimer, after a 911 call reporting a man fainted in the middle of the road on Tudor Court at 7:40 p.m. on Feb. 21, 2021, Lakewood police discovered Randolph in the road with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Randolph was transferred to the Southern Campus of Monmouth Medical Center in Lakewood, where he died.
Randolph died of several gunshot wounds, the Ocean County Medical Examiner ruled the next day after an autopsy.
Debose was charged with firearms and drugs charges on Feb. 23, 2021, and was arrested in Pleasantville the same day after a traffic check. Billhimer stated he has been in the Ocean County Jail since then.
Debose was charged with murder on Feb. 25 while in jail, according to Billhimer, after the inquiry indicated he was responsible for Randolph's death.
The state's case is being handled by Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Kristin Pressman and Assistant Prosecutor Victoria Veni.
