4.8 Earthquake Confirmed in New Jersey

According to the The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck in Hunterdon County, New Jersey on Friday morning. Reports of people feeling the quake came in from New Jersey, Philadelphia, New York City, Connecticut and elsewhere.

The east coast was shaken Friday morning by an earthquake of magnitude 4.8, with its epicenter located in Hunterdon County, as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey.

According to reports, people felt the earthquake all the way up and down the East Coast, including in Delaware, Connecticut, and New York City.

"An earthquake struck our area recently, with an estimated preliminary magnitude of 4.7 and an epicenter close to Readington in Hunterdon County. Our State Emergency Operations Center is now operational. Gov. Phil Murphy posted on social media, pleading with people not to phone 911 unless they truly have an emergency.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.8 and was located approximately 7 kilometers, or 4.3 miles, north of the Whitehouse Station neighborhood in Hunterdon County's Readington Township.

Additionally, the major weather service prediction office in Mount Holly, Burlington County, was shaken on Friday morning by the earthquake.
