The New Jersey Forest Fire Service is making substantial progress in containing a wildfire burning in the area of Allen Road in Bass River State Forest according to their Facebook post.

The wildfire has reached 5,000 acres in size and is 50% contained.

A backfiring operation to help contain the fire continued today to assist in achieving containment goals.

⚠️ The Batona Trail is closed in Bass River State Forest

According to state forest fire officials, a "major" forest fire at Bass River State Forest in southern New Jersey grown to 5,000 acres.

The wildfire, also known as the Allen Road Wildfire, was initially reported on Wednesday at about 6:20 p.m., according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. The fire had been half suppressed as of Thursday morning.

As smoke from the fire is producing air pollution concentrations that may become dangerous for vulnerable groups including children and the elderly, as well as persons with heart disease, asthma, or other diseases, air quality alerts have been issued in much of the state.

As of the Thursday evening update, the Timberline Campground is still closed, and no houses are under danger.
