According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, authorities say a man charged with hitting an 87-year-old woman in the head with a golf club and tearing a gold chain and crucifix from her neck at Berkeley's Robert J. Miller Airpark in September 2019 admitted to the offenses.
David Steen, 54, of Marlton, pled guilty to aggravated assault and robbery at the Ocean County Courthouse on Friday before Superior Court Judge Rochelle Gizinski.

At Steen's June 3 sentencing, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Agency will seek a 10-year jail sentence, according to the office.

Officers from the Berkeley Township Police Department were dispatched to an Urgent Care facility in Lacey Township on September 23, 2019, for an allegation of a robbery and assault at Robert J. Miller Airpark in Berkeley Township earlier that day. An 87-year-old woman was striking golf balls at the Airpark when she was approached by a male guy, according to the Berkeley Township Police Department Detective Bureau. The guy then shoved the lady to the ground and struck her with a golf club, ripping a gold chain and a gold crucifix from her neck before fleeing the scene. The victim was able to get back into her car and drive back to her home.

The victim was then driven to an Urgent Care center for treatment of her injuries by a friend. With the help of a New Jersey State Police sketch artist, the victim was able to provide Detectives with a thorough description of her assailant and his vehicle. She was also able to assist in the production of a composite sketch of her attacker. Law enforcement was able to identify Steen as the perpetrator of the robbery and assault on the 87-year-old victim after further investigation. Steen's arrest warrant was issued on October 3, 2019.

The New Jersey State Police detained Steen in Burlington County on October 7, 2019, following an unrelated motor vehicle stop. Steen was booked into the Ocean County Jail, where he has resided since his arrest on October 7, 2019.
