After a Three-Vehicle Crash in Brick, an Ocean County Man is in Critical Condition

An 83-year-old Lakewood Man

According to authorities, an 83-year-old Lakewood man was critically injured after his automobile collided with a pickup on Route 70 on Thursday.

Just before 5:30 p.m., Vincent C. Grillo was driving east on Route 70 in a silver 2020 Kia Sportage. The driver was failing to maintain lanes and colliding with a concrete divider at Olden Street, according to a 911 operator.

Grillo's vehicle then ran a red traffic light at Jack Martin Boulevard, according to preliminary inquiry.

A black 2008 GMC 2500 pickup driven by Michael J. Amogretti, 53, of Brick was stopped at a stop light on Route 70 and Morris Avenue. Richard S. Crue, 75, of Allenwood, was driving a white 2019 Subaru Crosstrek that was stopped at the same light as his automobile.

According to the preliminary inquiry, after running a red light on Jack Martin Boulevard, Grillo's car crashed with the rear of the GMC, which then collided with the rear end of the Subaru.

Grillo was found unconscious with many internal injuries and a laceration to the head, while Amogretti complained of chest pain, according to authorities. Crue was not hurt.

Grillo was airlifted to Neptune's Jersey Shore University Medical Center. At the site, Amogretti was treated by Brick emergency medical personnel.

The accident forced the closure of Route 70 east for about two hours.

Patrolman Daniel Fogarty of the Brick Traffic Safety Unit is investigating. Police urge anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about it to call Fogarty at 732-262-1141.
